The Arthur Library was established in 1900 when \n\t\t\tthe population of the town was 850. Forty Arthur residents donated \n\t\t\t$10.00 each to buy books for the use of the residents of Arthur. The \n\t\t\tbooks were placed in Homrighouse’s Jewelry Store. In 1907 the \n\t\t\tresidents voted to build a library on \nVine Street. Construction \n\t\t\twas completed the following year. Improvements were made in 1953 and \n\t\t\tan addition built in 1973. Having out-grown the facility, an effort \n\t\t\tbegan in 1989 to construct a new building. With the aid of a \n\t\t\t$208,000 state construction grant, a new building was completed in \n\t\t\t1991. The new facility has approximately 5,000 square feet, is \n\t\t\tcompletely handicapped accessible, and has allowances for expanding \n\t\t\tservices both now and in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Library Policies
Books
Books can be checked out for 21 days at a time, with one renewal period of 21 days. A fine will be charged for each book that is returned late.\u00a0 We also have a good collection of Large Print books.\u00a0 We have a rotating Large Print Collection that stays here for 3 months that offers an even greater number of large print books for our patrons.\u00a0 Our library also offers a large selection of Inspirational books. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Videos and DVDs
Videos and DVDs can be checked out for 7 days with no renewal. We limit the number of videos each family can check out to 5. There is a fine for each video returned late. We have a few instructional videos which are checked out for three weeks with a fine per day.\u00a0 We also have a rotating video collection that stays here for 30 days that allows us to offer an even greater number of videos.\u00a0 Those videos can only be checked out for 3 days with no renewals and the fine per day when returned late. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magazines
\n\t\t\tMagazines can be checked out for three weeks. The newest issue of a \n\t\t\tmagazine must remain in the library for browsing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renewals
\n\t\t\tRenewals can be made in person, over the internet, and by phone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting a Library \nCard                                                                                                                   \n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\tIf you are interested in having a library card, please come in and \n\t\t\trequest one.  If you live in the Arthur Public School District, \n\t\t\tyou would be able to have a card at no cost.  If you live \n\t\t\toutside the District, there would be a fee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\t\t\tThe library is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 \n\t\t\tam until 8 pm.  We are open on Friday and Saturday from 9 am \n\t\t\tuntil 5 pm.  We are closed on Sunday and the following \n\t\t\tholidays:  New Year\u2019s Day, Memorial Day, 4th. of July, Labor \n\t\t\tDay, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.  We \n\t\t\twill also close at 5 pm on Thanksgiving Eve and New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
